Guide to Strategy Section

Welcome to the DotA-Allstars.com Strategy Section! In this forum, you will find a trove of information relating to the Defense of the Ancients: Allstars, from detailed hero guides to gameplay tips. As with any other sections, there are some rules that must be adhered to while posting here.

- The Strategy Team -

Forum Leader:The Forum Leader's job is to make sure all the staff members are active, are not abusive and that the content of the subforum is informative and accessible to all the members of this forum. Contact him if you have any problems regarding the subforum or with any of our staff members.

Forum Moderators:Their main task is keeping the subforum clean from unwanted posts and users. They also make sure that the dead topics in the Root of Strategy will be moved to its appropriate section. In case they find a thread good enough to generate more attention and posts to it, they may put the [Feature] tag in front of those threads for a week or more.

Strategy Forum Crew:The Strategy Forum Crew is responsible for keeping the posting standards high. This subforum is meant to help all the DotA players who are in need of guiding of how to play, and proper suggestion/replies to all the new threads are crucial to make sure these people will learn how to use their favourite hero or beat their most feared enemy. Any guidewriter wishing to improve one's guide shall send a private message to one of the Strategy Forum Crew members for detailed reviews and constructive feedback.

- Where to post what? -

Premium Guides - this is the place for the best guides out there in the whole subforum. You cannot open new threads, but may reply to all the topics.
Guide Contest - whenever there's a new contest announced, be sure to check in either to take part of the contest as a writer or as a reader. The quality is quite high, and there are always new ideas included in the guides.
DotA Guides - you can find all the non-premium guides in this section. You may open up new threads whenever you like to. If your guide is not finished, please post it up in the Sandbox.
Strategy Discussion - each hero has their own section in this subforum. All threads about said hero will be moved to their proper location in the subform. You are to post any kind of hero or item discussion threads in the Main Strategy section.

- Forum Information -

Strategy Main Page (Root Strategy) [click here]
This is our strategy central location. All topic discussions pertaining to strategy are to be created here. Irregardless of it being a hero, item, teamplay, mini-guide, etc.
Hero specific topics will get moved into the Hero Strategy Discussions forum after a period of 1 week or after the topic fell into the 3rd page. The aim is to keep our discussion fresh and current.

Hero Discussion Forums [click here]
The idea of this forum is to create a mini-library of every single hero in dota. All past discussions on specific heroes are compiled and archived here. The aim is to aid users learning the heroes to find all relevant reading material, current and old. You can still reply to the discussions here, but you cannot create new topics here.

Complete List of Guides [click here]
A very critical piece of thread which compiles most of the guides in the strategy forum. If you are new to Dota, you are encouraged to constantly refer to this thread to help you find the guides you want to read.

Premium Guides [click here]
These are selected Guides which shows excellent content and writing worthy of mention. The list is constantly changing. Past Premium Guides can be found in the Guide Archives

Dota-Allstars Wiki [click here]
This is our very own D-A wikipedia. This isn't a sub-section of Strategy but it contains many useful information regarding Strategy. The link can be found at the top of the forum page among the list of links such as Heroes|Items|Replays.

- Strategy Forum Events -

Guide Contest [click here]
This is an event organized by the Strategy Team. It runs once every 3 months and lasts for a period of 2 months (1month of lull period). The contest is usually limited to Full Hero Guides. There are ocassions where it is a Mini-guide or Miscellaneous-guide Contest.
For more information, visit the Guide Contest Section.

Hero of the Week
This is still a work-in-progress, but after the new website is released, the Strategy Team will set up a poll of the heroes for you to vote as your favorite Hero of the Week (HotW). The chosen hero will have it's own thread where people will be able to discuss regarding that hero, and also post links to the hero's guides, add videos, pretty much anything regarding that hero, including fan art.

- Posting Guidelines & Other Matters -

1. Sometimes, users may confuse Mechanics/Balance/General Disuccsion-related questions with Strategy.

Examples:
Does Stout Shield stack?

Such topics belong in [Mechanics Section]
Lothars is IMBA!

--> Balance Discussion/Suggestions
Who is the best Hero?

--> General Discussion
If you come across such topics, do Report them through the Report Function immediately.

2. Combo/Counter-hero/non-5v5 topics will be moved to appropriate Hero Discussion or General Discussion.

Example:
  • Best 4v4 combo
  • What do you think about this 3v3 lane?
  • How to counter Axe

3. Avoid writing one-liners and justify your response.

Example:

Question: What's a good item on Huskar?
Answer: Armlet

Add more information to your post. The topic starters created such topic in order to find out why just as much as what in any dicussions. Repeating such brief reponses will result in being marked as a "spammer" and will receive warnings.

4. Under moderators' discretion, a topic may also be closed if it has been sufficiently discussed (case whereby replies are repeated and doesn't add any more value to the discussion). If you strongly feel that it should be re-opened, either PM a moderator or use the Report function to request it to be re-opened.

Fantastic a new set of rules and guidelines!

It appears the standards of moderation here are higher... :[

Also Dark Rogue was a Strategy Moderator? Would've expected him(or her, who knows?) to be a Suggestions moderator.

Anyways interesting a Hero of the Week(HotW). I need to remember these acronyms better.

Well welcome new forumers! If your in this section you'll pretty much become pros in no time. spiteful.gif

Shouldn't you note that people shouldn't follow the guides nearly exactly the way they propose. You should probably say that they are only references, and that everyone should have their own distinct style of playing.

~Cheers!~
