What's going on?
DotA Allstars needs your help! Most of you already know what the World Cyber Games is, but for those who don't, WCG is the biggest ESports event in the world.. With about 1 300 000 participants from 75 countries and 12 titles to obtain for honor, glory and money prizes. However, these 12 games currently don't include DotA. There is an official vote to include other games, but DotA isn't included in this vote, how can we became a part of this mega esports event if we aren't even considered an option? The community will need to show to the WCG Administrators that we are a large community with competitive interests and show them that our game and our community is worth to be part of this amazing tournament. To achieve that, all that you need to do is to write an e-mail to ICM, the company behind the WCG, and tell them why DotA should be a part of the World Cyber Games. If we want to see DotA at next years WCG we will need to fight it.There is no big gaming company behind dota like Valve, Blizzard or EA, the one and only thing that makes DotA interesting for the ICM is how big our community is and how many people are going to see the commercials of the WCG-main sponsors. We have more then 500 000 members, which is very big for game standards, we can join the WCG with the backing of the entire community. We need to be a part of the WCG main vote, because there is no USA WCG and there are no votings for the European WCG. This is our only chance - we need to fight for the WCG main event. Besides nice games and replays to watch everyone of you will have the chance to participate in the national qualifiers with your clan or team. The finals will be played offline on LAN much like the exciting tournaments of Dreamhack or the upcomming Fire and Ice. A very strong aspect of the World Cyber Games is that every country can have some spots, smaller countries with not so well-known Clans which normally don't have a big chance of making the playoffs of other big tournaments can take part in the LAN-finals of the WCG. Here are some things to point out when writing your e-mail A big and still growing community http://forums.dota-allstars.com/index.php?act=idx 550 000 members http://www.dota-league.com/ 84 000 members and of course all the other big fanpages//leagues that you know Money Tournaments http://asian.worldcybergames.com/index.php...uncement/search http://web.dreamhack.se/index.php?language=en§ion=1 http://archive.dreamhack.se/dhw06/en.97.html http://www.dreamhack.se/dhs07/web.dreamhac...rnaments_prizes http://www.cyberfight.org/site/asuscup/ eMazing Gaming's Fire in Ice http://www.mymym.com/en/index.html?cat=dota 10 extremely succesful tournaments Innovative Gameplay DotA is a totally unique ESport, a lot of the games that are played at the WCG are similar, this will be a nice break from all those games. Tell the wcg to put us to the RTS rooster(People that don't play DotA don't really know in what category to put it), against all the Blizzard RTS games (wc3 scbw sc2) and tell them that we are self confindent enough to compete with them. The truth is, there are always 4 RTS games at the WCG and we just need to beat one of the underground (2000 people) communities of RTS games (cc3 aoe coh wic ee), they are decent games but without a strong community, and therefor no competition for DotA at all.. Why should dota be a part of the World Cyber Games 2008. <Virtus|NS> DotA become mega popular game now, just look at mym.pride #8 cup. 350+ teams signed up and its just w/o prizes, rly 400 dollars for 1st place its nothing <SK|Loda> Well I'd say dota should be a part of the world cyber games because of its widespread community and gamers. There are soooo many dota players out there today, if it would get announced to participate in wcg 08 people would for real see it as a real esport! <SK|Drayich> "DotA is a huge game now, everyone knows about it and the competetive scene have also gone big, just a few steps behind the other big games and WCG is definently a valid next step" Thanks to: www.dota-allstars.com www.dotasg.com www.gosugamers.net www.dota-league.com www.indota.de |

Note that this isn't the place to discuss why DotA shouldn't be in WCG, if you don't want to support the DotA community, that's fine and your choice, but this isn't the topic to discuss that.

My e-mail is as good as sent, I'll try to focus on the community part and how its vast yet extremely loyal and dedicated and how small mods of existing games can become big (counter-strike).
Even though I almost certainly won't ever play DotA on WCG myself, I sure as hell want someone to do it! |

Maan, WCG people are soooo judgemental, they did not include dota in the roster because dota shares its software with warcraft ladder so WCG, like the elitists they are look down on our favorite game as "inferior"
TO THE WCG ADMINS: Why should dota be included? here are just some reasons 1. DotA is brings forth a new gaming genre, a combination of Real Time Strategy(like WarCrft) and a First-Person(Third person in this case) control(like Counter-Strike). In short, DotA is a cross between warcraft and counter strike 2. DotA has a huge following, evident of the massive population of people playing DotA all around the world, and in my opinion, even larger than some of the games included in the WCG 3. DotA are one of the games that requires player dynanimity, yes, In DotA, It requires both individual and team prowess to be a great player 4. DotA has some of its players/clans waiting for greater recognition, like team MYM and Virtus Pro 5. DotA is cyber-olympic material than most of the games, I mean, come on, aint it obvious, DotA is incorporated with soo many strategies, counter-strategies, and many more, Also look at the games included in the WCG, DotA's olympic-materialness rivals even the legendary Starcraft and on par with Warcraft and Counter-Strike and superior to most "MABUHAY KA DOTA!!!"( filipino praise for "Long Live DotA!!") |

I think one important factor you need to get across in the e-mail is the size of the community. Why? Because its all to do with sponsors and advertisements. If you can show that a game has a huge community, then this can show that many people will follow that tournament at WCG. Be it at the event it self or watching it online, it means a lot more viewers, which means more of an audience for the sponsors to advertise.
Some games that have been in WCG are so tiny compared to the big ones (CS, BW). Another important point you should get across is the fact, that this game itself is a community creation. This just isn't a game that Blizzard has made. Yes they did design the game, but Icefrog and many others created this type of game. The community has helped this game grow and grow, and evolve with each update. How wonderful is that for a game to be in WCG? WCG is all about people. How great would it be for WCG to have a game that has been created by the people and become so popular by the people too! I am sure some of you can word it better than me, but you get the idea! |
