{ Watching 1.22 Patch Replays }

Here is a simple program for viewing 1.22 patch replays, when you have 1.23 installed. For viewing 1.21 and earlier replays, see below.

{ Watching Older Replays }

NOTE: When upgrading to a newer WC3 patch for the first time, you need to use the official Blizzard updater (via Battle.net or Blizzard Support). Once you have downloaded and installed 1.24b from Blizzard, you can switch between patches using the method below.

Disclaimer: We are not responsible if your Warcraft III folder goes kaput. Always backup important files (preferably your entire Warcraft III folder) in case something goes wrong. In particular, the method below can be touch-and-go. Usually it will work perfectly, but sometimes it will fail miserably. Having a backup will save you time when if things go wrong.

***Make sure Warcraft III is closed before we begin.***

You must install WinRar (1.15MB), its free and its used to extract these files.

Text:

(This was tested with a fresh WC3 install, starting from patch version 1.07)
  1. Download and install the official 1.24b patch, via Battle.net or Blizzard Support;
  2. Create a backup of your newly installed 1.24b patch files:
    1. Copy game.dll, ijl15.dll, Mss32.dll, Storm.dll, and War3Patch.mpq into a separate folder (name it "1.24b").
    2. Or, download the 1.24b files using one of the above links
  3. Download the old patch/es that you want, using the above links;
  4. Create a folder for each group of patch files. Name them something obvious (eg. "1.22"), and place them in an easy to find location (eg. in your Warcraft III folder);
  5. Now you're ready to switch between patches! Copy+paste the five (5) relevant files from your 1.20/1.21/1.22/1.23 folder, into your Warcraft III folder. Click yes to override all (remember you already backed them up).
Done! Repeat step 5 for future changes. There is no limit on how many times you can change patches. Enjoy watching old classic replays. smile.gif

Q & A:

Q.
A.

[ADD TO THIS]

Click to reveal older tutorials:

(Assuming the wc3 directory is the default c:\program files\warcraft III)

- unrar the file to a 1.21b directory in your wc3 directory.

- go to your wc3 directory and create a new directory called 1.22.

- copy game.dll, ijl15.dll, mss32.dll, storm.dll, war3.exe, and war3patch.mpq to the 1.22 folder.

- now you have the 1.21b version and 1.22 version in different folders. Anytime you want to view a 1.21b replay, just go into the 1.21b folder and COPY (don't move) those files to your main wc3 directory. When you want to switch back to 1.22, just copy the files in the 1.22 directory to the main wc3 directory. To make this simple, I use the following batch files:

121.bat:
CODE
cd c:\progra~1\warcra~1
copy .\1.21b\* .\

122.bat:
CODE
cd c:\progra~1\warcra~1
copy .\1.22\* .\

I put them on my desktop and just run whichever version I want. No need to repatch or anything like that. Tested with 1.21b and 1.22 replays with no errors. I'm not sure if you can still use batch files in Vista, but on XP, this works fine.

Old guide for older files/versions:

1. Download the files.
2. Extract the files to your Warcraft folder -> version folder.
(Ex: Your Warcraft folder is
QUOTE(Pathname)
C:\Program Files\Warcraft III

then extract the files to
QUOTE(Pathname)
C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\1.21

if you downloaded the 1.21 DLLs).

3. Backup the CURRENT DLL files in your Warcraft folder to another folder.
4. Then, copy your new DLL files (files extracted) to Warcraft's main folder.
5. Your Warcraft has now been upgraded to whichever version you've chose.
6. If you want to return to your current version, re-copy all the files that you've backed-up to Warcraft's main folder.

This only works for viewing replays; it does not let you play on Battle.net under anything other than your installed current patch. Certain servers, LAN games, and customs still allow playability.

Download the files for your current patch, and the files corresponding with your replay. If you're looking for old replays, check the following forum: Archives

I dont want to offend the makers of Evercraft but I think this is much easier to understand.

All minor patches (1.20a->1.20b->1.20c etc) can view the same replays.

Evercraft is too hectic, Nerak's method is best.

Ok. I have the 1.20e DLL and it's in the folder with my old DLL copied over, but where can I find older versions of the map. I'm looking for v6.26b for this specific replay. Thanks in advance! ^ ^

*Edit* Also is there an easy way to undo this process? I tried to reconnect to Battlenet, but it wouldn't self update.

Make a backup of the DLLs before you replace them. ALWAYS back up things before you make dire changes. Anyways, download the 1.21 DLLs I provided in the first post and it'll reverse it.
